President’s Message

Dear Members and Friends:

HBAPA President Diana P. CortesThank you for your interest in and support of the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania (HBAPA). The HBAPA was established in 1983. Its mission is to advance the social, economic, professional, and educational status of Latino/Hispanic attorneys, law students, and community members, while working collaboratively with other specialty, county, state, and national bar associations to promote the administration of justice and the advancement of all Latinos.

Beginning to accomplish this mission can only be done with an active board of directors and an active membership. The 2011 Board includes many new faces and welcomes back old friends. The 2011 Board and Officers include: President-Elect, Maria Arbona; Vice President, Carlos Montoya; Secretary, Theresa Concepcion; Treasurer, Rachel Gallegos; and Board members: Jenimae Almquist, Rich Cruz, Marlene Gomez, Will Gonzalez, Alex Gonzalez, Henri Marcial, Robert Nix, Suzanne Prybella, and Mariana Viss; and Ex-Officios Teresa Rodriguez and Diana Cortes. Like years past, this year’s Board is talented and dedicated, and we look forward to working with you for a successful year!

All of you have a crucial part to play in the accomplishment of HBAPA’s mission. I encourage each of you to let a Board member or me know what you think about the HBAPA, its mission, its events, its website, etc. Please share your accomplishments and concerns with us. We want to make sure that we are aware and recognize all of our members’ contributions and accomplishments. Let us also know about the issues you believe are important to the Latino community. Help us identify issues and/or projects the HBAPA should consider addressing. By keeping us informed, you enable us to inform the membership through our regular newsletter and this website.

Finally, I want to encourage you to attend one of our upcoming events. In 2011, the HBAPA will continue to network with local and national, legal and non-legal professional Latino organizations and also with other affinity bar groups. The HBAPA also will award its annual La Justicia Award to an individual who has worked to promote education and justice throughout the Latino community. I encourage you to attend these events and to bring your friends and colleagues.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you as the HBAPA strives to achieve its goal.

Con un abrazo,
Lorena E. Ahumada
2011 HBAPA President
