HBA NEWSLETTER - EDITORIAL POLICY

The Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania distributes a weekly newsletter via e-mail in order to provide a forum for the following:

(1) publicizing upcoming events or opportunities that may be of interest to its members;

(2) fostering greater communication with groups and individuals that share the goals of the HBA and its mission;

(4) reaching a wider audience to increase the visibility of the HBA;

(5) keeping the membership apprised of the activities and projects of the HBA; and

(6) sharing information regarding the accomplishments of its members as well as those of minority lawyers and public figures.

It is not the purpose of the newsletter to adopt or disseminate any specific political message, particularly because our membership is comprised of a diverse group of individuals with varying backgrounds, interests and political leanings.

However, to the extent the newsletter may be used as a vehicle for sharing information, occasionally the events or information of political groups may be made available to the membership by way of mention in the newsletter. Inclusion of any material in the newsletter does not reflect the political positions or goals of the HBA or its members. While individual members of the HBA are of course free to pursue their own political goals, any HBA-endorsed or HBA-sponsored activity that advances a political statement or agenda must be approved by the HBA Board; the newsletter should not provide a forum for advancing or endorsing such political activities.

The inclusion of newsletter material, as well as the timing of announcements, is left largely to the discretion of the Secretary of the HBA, but any messages that may tend toward political statements must be approved by the Board of the HBA prior to being included in the newsletter. The Secretary will err on the side of caution and will avoid endorsement or of any particular viewpoint or political message.
